Habitat for Humanity Project – A Better World Starts at Home

Attorney Dyan Gershman has three decades of experience in corporate law, having served in both in executive roles at Fortune 50 companies, and in a global law firm. In addition to her work in the legal profession, Dyan Gershman is a frequent volunteer and contributor to nonprofit organizations dedicated to helping underserved people in difficult circumstances, such as Habitat for Humanity.

In addition to building homes for low-income families and individuals, Habitat for Humanity supports sustainable development projects around the world. In partnership with furniture retailer IKEA and four other international nonprofits, Habitat for Humanity produces eco-friendly communities through a project called A Better World Starts a Home.

The project aims to provide green energy to areas of the world that currently lack energy infrastructure. According to 2014 estimates from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, without additional infrastructure or resources, more than half a billion Africans will not have access to sustainable energy sources. So far, Habitat for Humanity has built tens of thousands of energy-efficient homes in Uganda, a developing nation in East Africa.
