Dyan Gershman is an experienced corporate attorney who leads Gershman Law, based in New York City, and delivers support in complex M&A transactions and other corporate matters. With a community commitment, Dyan Gershman supports nonprofits such as the Catskill Animal Sanctuary. With a focus on rescue, the sanctuary, based in Saugerties, New York, spans 150 acres and has helped care for more than 5,000 animals over the years.
Impacted heavily by the pandemic, the sanctuary lost nearly a third of its funding and was forced to stop offering in-person tours in 2020. In addition, activities such as field trips involving local schools, as well as vegan cooking classes, were impacted.
To counteract these limitations, the nonprofit developed a successful “virtual sanctuary” concept, which involved hosting virtual field trips. These included elements such as the innovative program Animals on Call. Through this initiative, rescued animals “made” scheduled calls to people and were able to share their stories.
Today, the sanctuary’s doors are open to in-person tours again, with 200 species of animals living on the property, both in outdoor environments and indoor enclosures.
