Martha E. Gifford Program Shows Realities Faced by Women Lawyers

The Martha E. Gifford Summer Program of the New York Women’s Bar Association (NYWBA), in partnership with the New York City Bar, shows participants “What It’s Really Like to Practice Law as a Woman.” The annual event welcomes participation from early-career attorneys, students, summer associates, and interns, all of whom attend free.

The diverse selection of presenters every year offers insights that could only come from women working at the top of their game within a profession where men still occupy the most prestigious positions.

Program co-founder Martha E. Gifford is among the NYWBA’s most notable past presidents. She also previously served as Judiciary Committee Chair of the organization, and continues to serve as a director of the NYWBA Foundation, funding legal and other services for women and children in need.

In solo practice since 2007, Gifford has received wide recognition for her antitrust work. She has held numerous leadership positions with the New York State Bar Association, the New York City Bar, and the Women’s Bar Association of the State of New York.
